Roses of Africa: a welfare-minded enterprise

Actors of African development for about a decade now, the founders of Roses of Africa have taken part in development programmes in Africa and in the Indian Ocean: actions in favour of a well-thought agriculture in Kenya and in Madagascar, carrying out of surveys aimed at improving road infrastructures in East Africa, commitment to the development of the East African Community, which comprises Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

Such welfare-oriented approach was reflected in 2004 in the support given to a producer of roses in Tanzania in relation to the Max Havelaar certification of his rose garden.

Roses of Africa a trouvé, grâce au commerce équitable et au label Max Havelaar, le moyen de transformer en actions concrètes un engagement personnel en faveur du développement africain.

Thanks to fair trade and the Max Havelaar label, Roses of Africa, has found a way of turning a personal commitment to African development into tangible actions. By becoming an importer of Max Havelaar certified roses from Tanzania Roses of Africa enables a greater number to go on with this action. French consumers can therefore associate the pleasure of offering roses with active participation towards the improvement of the working and living conditions of some Tanzanian wage earners.

Thus, fair trade contributes towards sustainable development by offering better trade conditions to the underprivileged producers and workers in the Southern countries and enhancing their rights.
